THE FAMILY COOKBOOK
As a food photographer and photojournalist, I want to capture the beautiful stories families make together when preparing (and eating) foods that are special to them. Part cookbook, part family photo album, The Family Cookbook is a photo session guided by the foods you love and the people you make them with.
GET IN TOUCH
Fill out the form below to submit an inquiry. After booking, you'll receive a questionaire so you can tell me all about your food and family traditions. You'll also get the Family Cookbook Guide with prep and wardrobe tips as well as a more detailed timeline of how your cookbook session will go.
Gather your family recipes (or just recipes you like) and whoever you'd like to include in the session. It can be intimate with just you and your children, or make it an inter-generational affair with all the cooks in your family. We will make a plan together of how many recipes we'll photograph and design your relaxed photo shoot.
Your photo gallery will be delivered about three weeks after the session, along with a proof of your cookbook. You'll approve your proof and swap out any photos to perfect its layout. We can print more recipes than we photographed so you'll have a complete family heirloom to pass down.
Family Cookbook sessions start at $800 and include:
A documentary-style photo session
A private online digital gallery
A custom-designed 10x10 cookbook.
You can add a number of print items to your session package including: cards, canvases, calendars, mosaics and more.
Extra cookbooks can also be added at a discounted rate.
I have an old video tape of my great grandmother making gefilte fish and matzo ball soup from scratch. My family still has this record of cherished Jewish recipes that we can pass down to our children. Events in my family center on food and the dynamic we have when preparing meals makes the most memories. And I love cookbooks. I can spend hours flipping through their beautiful pages and I love creating personalized heirlooms for families.
FLIP THROUGH A SAMPLE
Your cookbook contains 40 pages (more can be added, up to 100 pages total) of recipes and family photos. Choose from a linen cover with cameo photo or an image cover. Layouts feature extra-wide margins so future generations can add notes and annotations to each recipe. Pages lay flat for easy use and are coated for long-lasting durability.
HOW MANY RECIPES CAN WE INCLUDE?
How ever many we can fit into a few hours of cooking. We will plan together how many recipes we'll have time for, so gather your favorites together. You can also have dishes made ahead of time and we'll photograph the finished product. And we can always print more recipes than we photograph.
HOW MANY COOKBOOKS DO WE RECEIVE?
Your session package includes one 10x10 book, but you can add extra copies.
ARE WE COOKING JUST ONE BIG MEAL?
If you like. If not, we can photograph several recipes that don't necessarily go together. What makes the cookbook cohesive is the candid photos of your family bonding together over the process of making food.
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE FAMILY RECIPES?
No problem. My grandma always made THE BEST scrambled eggs and I have yet to figure out how she did it. If your kids have favorite foods, even if it's just that spaghetti recipe you got off the Food Network, let's include it.
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE RECIPES BUT I STILL LOVE THE IDEA OF A FAMILY FOOD SESSION?
Booking a Family Photo Essay might be more down your alley. The shoot is shorter and we can still capture all the fun candid moments you and your kids create.
Fill out the form below to book your session. Please include as much information about your family as possible so we can make the most of our time together. I am so excited to get to know you, your family and your traditions!
Everyone deserves family photos. Proceeds from each full-priced session go toward a session and album for a refugee or low-income family in your community.
